Zuckerberg to Court Over Role in Privacy Scandal

Mark Zuckerberg, chief executive of Facebook parent company Meta Platforms, is being called to testify in a lawsuit alleging Facebook illegally shared user data.

He is being charged for his role in the privacy scandal surrounding the Cambridge Analytica political campaigns bureau. Operations Director Sheryl Sandberg also has to appear in court.

Zuckerberg allegedly contributed to Facebook’s lax control over user data and helped draft deceptive privacy agreements. This allowed campaign agency Cambridge Analytica and other parties to gain unauthorized access to the data of many millions of American users.

When he faced Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump used Cambridge Analytica to “target” Facebook users in the 2016 US presidential election. Karl Racine, a prosecutor in the Washington, D.C. district, called the incident “the largest consumer privacy scandal in the nation’s history.”
