World Health Organization Deplores Discontinuation of U.S. Aid

The World Health Organization (WHO) deplores U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to close the funding tap.

WHO boss Tedros calls the United States a long-term and generous friend, “and we hope it will remain that way.”

Trump temporarily stopped the annual American contribution – converted about 370 million euros – because he thinks that the U.N. organization has not adequately tackled the corona pandemic.

The US is the largest WHO, donor. Tedros says he is looking at how to close any financial gaps.

Trump is not alone in criticizing WHO. A signature campaign is running on the petition website change.org to get rid of Tedros. Almost 1 million people have now signed it.

Democrats in the U.S. parliament, meanwhile, are announcing opposition to Trump’s decision, U.S. media reports.

President Pelosi of the House of Representatives considers the President’s move dangerous and illegal. The decision will be challenged soon, she said.
