WhatsApp Expands Disappearing Messages Options

WhatsApp Expands Disappearing Messages Options. WhatsApp will now give users more options about how long specific messages remain.

The messaging service already introduced messages that deleted themselves last year, but now users are given more options about how long those messages can remain. The chat service announced this in a blog post on Monday.

WhatsApp introduced the ability to make messages disappear by themselves last year. In August 2021, the option to make photos and videos disappear after viewing was also added. Now the messaging service goes one step further.

Until now, users had to indicate per chat whether they wanted the messages to disappear. However, it will be possible to check disappearing messages as the default option from now on.

In addition, the user can also choose from different terms: 24 hours, 7 days or 90 days. However, users can still opt for specific chats to save the messages. For example, the person who creates the chat can choose whether or not to save the messages for group chats.

Finally, WhatsApp says that the new feature is optional and has no impact on existing messages.
