The corona pills from Merck’s pharmaceutical company are also becoming available in the United States. The FDA has given preliminary approval for this.
The drug molnupiravir is intended to prevent people who have the coronavirus from developing serious symptoms or even dying.
Merck’s corona pills, which are active in Europe under the name MSD, may only be used by adults with a high health risk.
On Wednesday, the FDA also gave the green light for the use of the corona pills from pharmaceutical company Pfizer.
This drug is called Paxlovid and may only be used in the US for patients with a high health risk who are older than 12 years. Both medicines may already be used in Europe.
