Turkey has put into use a corona vaccine developed domestically for the first time. The drug is called Turkovac and is administered in hospitals.
Turkey already used the vaccines from the Chinese Sinovac and Pfizer/BioNTech. The 84-million-population country has administered approximately 130 million doses of vaccine.
Turks who initially received a foreign vaccine can also be vaccinated with the new drug. “No matter what vaccine you got for this, you can get Turkovac as a booster,” Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said.
Turkish President Erdogan announced last week that the new vaccine had been approved through an emergency procedure. He has also announced that his country wants to make Turkovac available worldwide.
However, Turkey has not yet released detailed information about how effective the drug is.
