US President Trump pardons US activist Susan B. Anthony (1820-1906). She fought for the right to vote for women and for more rights for citizens.

She participated illegally in a vote in 1872, was arrested and fined $ 100 which she refused to pay.

Her sentence has never been waived. Trump has therefore decided to pardon her posthumously. “Women dominate the United States,” the president said in the White House.

Anthony’s prosecution put the fight for women’s suffrage in the spotlight. She died fourteen years ago before women were given the right to vote, a hundred years ago now.

Anthony is somewhat controversial for mainly excluding black women from her movement.
