Japanese automaker Toyota will shut down production at its 14 Japanese plants on Tuesday due to a “system failure” at a local supplier. It may be a cyber attack.
A Toyota spokesperson did not confirm that it was a cyberattack because it was with a supplier. Toyota will not disclose the name of that supplier.
According to the Japanese news site Nikkei, major supplier Kojima Industries, which makes plastic parts, was hit by a cyber attack.
Toyota will look on Tuesday whether production can resume on Wednesday. The day without production will mean that about 13,000 cars will not be made.
