The European Union wants to have 70 percent of adults vaccinated against the coronavirus by September 21.
The European Commission has already announced this aim, but there was confusion about the schedule.
President Ursula von der Leyen of the European Commission previously aimed at “in the summer”, words that could also indicate summer’s arrival in June. She later made it clear that the committee had set the end of the summer and set a definite date.
“The summer usually ends on September 21,” she said Friday in the final approval of the corona recovery fund.
The committee immediately called the target ambitious, but since then, the vaccination campaign’s setback has also accumulated. All three vaccine manufacturers whose vaccines are so far authorized for use in the EU announced delays.
Experts believe that the epidemic will end when at least 70 percent of the population is vaccinated.
