The son of former president Jacob Zuma of South Africa will remain free for the time being. Duduzane Zuma appeared in court Monday because of a corruption scandal. According to South African media, the judge decided to release Zuma on bail.
The prosecution of Duduzane is connected with an alleged attempt by the then state secretary of finance Mcebisi Jonas to buy. Jonas previously revealed that the wealthy Gupta family had offered him a substantial sum of money and the ministry at his department in 2015. Duduzane, a business partner of the Guptas, would have been involved.
The case against Duduzane will resume in January. He has to hand in his passport, pay 100,000 rands and pay weekly to the police. Duduzane was abroad, but would recently have returned for the funeral of his brother.
The Gupta’s became the centre of a political riot because they would exert significant influence on the government of Jacob Zuma.
The president stepped under great pressure earlier this year and also has to stick with justice. The authorities suspect him of corrupt practices.
