Russia has tried to influence the British elections in 2019 by distributing illegally obtained documents via the internet.
These were papers containing sensitive information about a free trade agreement with the US.
That was stated by the British foreign secretary, Dominic Raab, on Thursday.
“It is almost certain that Russians attempted to interfere in the 2019 general election by distributing leaked government documents online,” the minister said.
The distribution went through the social media platform Reddit.
According to Raab, the government will respond “with appropriate measures” in the future, but he did not explain what that means. According to Raab, “extensive analyzes” were made that led to the conclusion.
The December 2019 elections were gloriously won by Boris Johnson. The victory made it possible for him to let his country leave the EU, his most important election promise.
