The Russian health authorities state that the Russian vaccine against the new coronavirus called Sputnik V is 95 percent effective.
Russia wants to vaccinate people en masse at the beginning of next year, but that will be done voluntarily.
The country hopes that 2 million doses will be available by the end of this year. Trials are still underway with the two-part vaccine from the Gamaleya Medical Research Institute.
117,000 doses of the vaccine against Covid-19 have already been put into circulation, authorities said.
Russia has more than 145 million inhabitants, and more than 73 million corona tests have been carried out. The government is very concerned about the continuing increase in the number of (death) cases.
So far, 2.1 million people have tested positive, and 37,000 patients have succumbed to the virus, according to statistics.
