President Trump Leaves the White House for the Last Time

US President Donald Trump has left the White House and is heading to Florida. Later that day, Democrat Joe Biden is sworn in as the 46th president of the United States.

Trump and his wife Melania boarded the Marine One helicopter, which flew the couple to an airbase in the nearby state of Maryland. From Joint Base Andrews, they take Air Force One to Palm Beach, Florida, where Trump goes to his Mar-a-Lago resort.

Vice President Mike Pence wasn’t there to say goodbye to his boss. Contrary to tradition, the outgoing president will not attend the inauguration of his successor. That last happened over 150 years ago. Pence will go to Biden’s inauguration.

A few dozen people had gathered outside the field near the White House, where the helicopter was standing. This mainly concerned journalist, photographers, domestic workers and security guards.

Marine One then flew another lap over the capital before landing at Andrews. There, a group of staff members and also ardent supporters of President Trump waited.
