The current president of Ghana, West Africa, can prepare for a new term after elections. Nana Akufo-Addo has defeated his rival John Mahama and has been reelected.
The approximately 17 million Ghanaians entitled to vote were able to vote on Monday.
The electoral council announced on Wednesday that Akufo-Addo had received almost 52 percent of the vote.
According to the police, five people were killed, and 17 were injured in the violence surrounding the elections. That casts a shadow over the polls in a country praised for its stable democracy.
According to the EU observer mission, Ghanaians were free to vote.
