Otters in an aquarium in Atlanta, Georgia, have tested positive for the zoo reports’ coronavirus.
They began to show mild respiratory symptoms, including sneezing, runny noses, lack of energy and coughing, the Georgia Aquarium said in a press release, adding that the animals are “expected to make a full recovery.”
According to the report, the animals will remain out of sight of the public for the time being and will receive good (medical) care. How many animals are sick has not been disclosed.
Tonya Clauss, vice president of the aquarium’s animal health service, said the otters are “very closely monitored” and show only mild symptoms.
The otters are said to have contracted the infection from an infected staff member who had no symptoms of his own. According to the aquarium, the animals have no direct contact with visitors.
