A study published in the medical magazine The Lancet would indicate that the number of infections during the first wave in China in February would be much higher if a later definition of infection is used.
China says that no one in the country has died from the disease for a week.
Officially, 83,000 people have been infected with the coronavirus in China. These are official figures communicated by the government in Beijing, and internationally there is a lot of mistrust.
A study by researchers from the University of Hong Kong now suggests that the number of infections in China could be significantly underestimated.
The study is published in the medical journal “The Lancet” and is based on official figures from China and a joint mission of the World Health Organization (WHO) and China.
