First Saudi Model Ever on Catwalk in Paris. Taleedah Tamer (18) made a remarkable debut during Parisian couture week. Never before has a Saudi model appeared on the catwalk of a prestigious couture show in the Parisian capital.
Taleedah Tamer is tipped as the very first Saudi supermodel, and that is mostly due to her memorable appearance on Antonio Grimaldi’s catwalk during Parisian couture week.
Although Saudian models have surfaced in the fashion world before, she may call herself the first model in the kingdom to ever make her appearance at a Parisian fashion show. On Instagram, she shared a short video, which shows how she can open the show.
During a conversation with The New York Times, the model told about her daring choice as a model to step outside.
“I realise that many Saudis do not agree with my modelling career, and although I respect their opinion, I am proud to be able to change the perception of modern Saudi women,” Tamer said. “I represent Saudi women who are beautiful and strong, and I want to represent them in the right way.”
As a daughter of an Italian mother and a Saudi father, she now hopes to pave the way for other models from her homeland. The model also adorns the cover of the summer issue of Harper’s Bazaar Arabia.
Tamer: ‘As a young girl, I did not realise that I never saw Saudi women in fashion magazines. When I got older, I started to wonder why those women did not look like me. Why should modelling not be practised in a way that shows respect for our culture? ‘
