Facebook Parent Company Meta is Going to Fire Thousands More People

Facebook parent company Meta Platforms would lay off thousands more employees. As a result, among other things, some layers of management must disappear.

That writes the American newspaper The Washington Post. In addition to managers, the company would also like to further cut back on the number of projects and jobs. In November, Meta announced it would cut 11,000 jobs or about one in eight. CEO and founder Zuckerberg then said that he had misjudged the lasting changes in people’s behaviour caused by the corona pandemic.

Instead, he stated that 2023 would be the “year of efficiency” and that Meta would focus more on profitability. Earlier this month, the Financial Times newspaper also warned of new rounds of layoffs.

Investors have been complaining for some time that Meta was investing too much money in the Metaverse, a virtual world where we’re all going to spend our time at some point if it’s up to Zuckerberg. As a result, investments in this have also been scaled back. In addition, several tech companies have been cutting their workforce hard recently.

For example, alphabet, the parent company of Google, cut 12,000 jobs. Microsoft laid off 10,000 employees, and Amazon continued with 18,000 fewer employees.
