EU Ministers Want Sanctions Against Belarusians

The European Union will establish a sanctions list of Belarusian officials responsible for the country’s electoral fraud and subsequent violence against protesters.

That is the outcome of an inserted video consultation of the foreign ministers of the EU countries, report the news agencies Reuters and Bloomberg.

The European Commission is instructed to compile the list.

The persons on that account are no longer welcome in the EU and can no longer access their European bank balances if the member states formally decide to do so.

Calls for punitive measures against the regime have grown louder in recent days. If sanctions prove necessary “I will certainly support them,” said Minister Stef Blok earlier today.
