EU Demands Potential Billion-Dollar Compensation from AstraZeneca

The European Commission is demanding compensation from vaccine manufacturer AstraZeneca that could amount to billions of euros.

She wants the judge to charge the British-Swedish pharmaceutical company 10 euros for each day that a dose of the corona vaccine is delayed.

AstraZeneca expects to deliver only 100 million of the promised 300 million corona vaccines by July 1. From that moment on, the company is, therefore, indebted to 200 million doses.

If that were to remain the case, damages would grow by 2 billion euros every day.

The daily EU administration and AstraZeneca met in court in Brussels on Wednesday. The commission has filed a lawsuit to get the vaccine maker to deliver at least 120 million doses by July. The court ruling is expected next month.
