During the massively attended funeral procession for Iranian general Qassem Soleimani in his hometown of Kerman, at least 50 people were killed and more than 200 were injured, according to Iranian media.
Qassem Soleimani was killed in Iraq last week by an American rocket attack. He is buried today, after three days of national mourning, but due to the panic broke out during the funeral procession, the funeral ceremony has been postponed indefinitely.
Thousands of people had recovered early this morning in a long funeral procession in Kerman, in southeastern Iran. Qassem Soleimani, general of the al-Quds brigade, is from Kerman and is supposed to be buried there today.
As was the case yesterday in the capital, Tehran, today was also the day of the funeral in Kerman declared a local day off.
In this way, the Iranian government wants as many people as possible to participate in the farewell to Soleimani.
