British Pub Chain Laughs at Boris Johnson: You weren’t in Trouble with Open Pubs Now

British pub chain JD Wetherspoon has used the ‘Partygate’ scandal surrounding Prime Minister Boris Johnson to point out his corona policy.

According to the company, Johnson would not have been in trouble now if he had not closed the catering industry in 2020, during the first corona wave. Trained catering staff would then have ensured that the parties that were now taking place in Downing Street had gone safely, it sounds.

The chain was hit hard by the successive corona measures. In the past three months, turnover fell by more than 16 percent. JD Wetherspoon, therefore again lashed out at the measures by pointing out that the catering industry had shown that it could open safely.

No major outbreaks can be traced back to pubs, it said. Public finances would also have looked better, according to the company, because the taxes paid by the chain and its customers normally amount to 15 million pounds a week.
