The European Union and the United Kingdom have suspended their negotiations on a trade agreement as soon as the UK has also left the EU in practice.
An employee of EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier has contracted the coronavirus.
“We have decided to suspend negotiations for a short time,” Barnier tweeted. In the meantime, the teams will continue their work “within the guidelines”.
Time is running out to reach an agreement on EU-UK relations for when the British no longer follow EU rules on January 1.
