In a major international campaign against human trafficking and other crime in southeastern Europe, 166 arrests were made last week.
These included human, drug and weapon smugglers. 51 weapons and 47 kilos of drugs were seized, the European police force Europol reports.
39,000 persons and 44,000 vehicles were checked at border crossings and suspicious places in the Balkan region, among others.
In total, 8,838 law enforcement officers were deployed in operation in 34 countries. The Netherlands also participated.
“Criminals from southeastern Europe are expanding their networks and influence,” said Europol crime-fighter Jari Liukku. “This operation is a great success and an example of a strong collaboration.”
